Establishing appropriate water level
Last week, Thisted Municipality implemented the first hydrologic action as part of a series of hydrological and botanical studies in connection to LIFE RigKilde.
The action toke place in the meadows at Ove Sø, Sønderhå in collaboration with the landowners.
Aft closing drains in several places on a well-drained meadow, calcareous groundwater now flows out onto the terrain and the right conditions have been created for the development of alkaline fens. We documented the effect with water level stations and the result could be seen immediately. The effect can be seen on the graph, where both the blue and green lines show that the water level in the soil rises right up to the ground immediately after the drainage is interrupted.
We are very much looking forward to following the development of the area, which over time will get more exciting and valuable plant species.
